Timeline 2019-2024

Step by step, we are working towards sustainable healthcare. In this sustainability report, you can read about the steps we took in the 2025-2026 financial year. However, sustainable and socially responsible initiatives were already being implemented before 2025. Below is an overview.

In collaboration with TEVA, consumers can return medicine waste to BENU pharmacies (TEVA return boxes).

Started electrifying employees’ lease cars.

18 charging stations with dual connections installed at the head office in Maarssen and at the Fulfilment Centre in Eindhoven.

Started optimising medicine distribution routes.

Started working paperless in pharmacies, including digital prescription processing and electronic delivery notes. Digitising prescriptions has not only significantly reduced paper consumption, but also the use of printers and toner. In addition, physical storage, transport to archives and the eventual destruction of paper documents are no longer necessary. Besides creating a more efficient way of working, this also delivers environmental benefits.

Mapped our CO₂ footprint.

The ‘New Way of Working’ scheme was introduced for office-based employees at Brocacef Group. This means that, on average, they work 50% of their weekly hours at the office and 50% from home.

Completion of the sustainable, multifunctional Fulfilment Centre in Amsterdam.

Completion of Brocacef Healthcare Logistics’ sustainable distribution centre in Ede.

Committed to the Green Deal Sustainable Healthcare 3.0.

Switched to 100% green electricity (European wind power).

Started electrifying 60 B2C delivery vans.

Started installing LED lighting in distribution centres and a large proportion of BENU pharmacies.

‘Package to Patient’ machines commissioned in Eindhoven and Amsterdam. These machines process a huge number of prescriptions every day and package medicines in bags made from 86% bio-based material.

2,500 solar panels installed on the roof of our building in Ede and 4,000 on the roof of our Fulfilment Centre in Amsterdam. As a result, the building in Ede is now 33% CO₂-neutral, while the building in Amsterdam is 85% CO₂-neutral.

The Ede and Amsterdam locations received a BREEAM Excellent certificate upon completion.

40% of our delivery vans are electric.

Deliveries have been centralised in a number of major cities, enabling more efficient delivery routes.
